Houston Texans – A Team On The Rise
When Bud Adams, the longtime owner of the Houston Oilers, received permission from the National Football League in 1997 to relocate his team to Tennessee, the City of Houston appeared destined to suffer through many years without a professional football team to represent it. At the time, the NFL appeared to be in no hurry to expand its roster of teams, making the likelihood of any new expansion team being placed in Houston remote at best. Fortunately for the city, the League’s subsequent decision to allow Cleveland to form a new team left the NFL with an odd number of teams – thirty-one – and a need for one more expansion franchise. Houston eventually won the nod and the Texans were born!
